Students continue learning about numbers. Today we talked about estimation.
How many marbles do you think will fit into the glass? Students made their predictions and then, counted the marbles. What was the closest predictions? The activities alike promote child's comprehension of the concept of quantity. We'll be working on recognizing, counting, comparing, representing numbers, gradually introducing problem solving in this area. You are encouraged to discuss math ideas with your child at home, e.g., how many forks do we need to put on the table for dinner? Do we need less/more spoons? How many less/more? How do you know?
On Monday, we started a geometry unit in Movement and Location. Students are learning to describe location of an object (e.g., the chair is on the right of the table) and give/follow directions ( go straight, turn right). These are the directions in French that the students need to learn. Please ask your child to practise them at home. You could also help by playing board games with him/her, e.g., Snakes and Ladders, Rush Hour, etc. For more ideas and games, please check Think Fun link.
