Since I
have been in the class, we have worked on a unit about the Local Community. We
started learning about the places found in the community (example: parks,
school, stores, houses…etc.) and then moved onto learning about the people in
the community. For the final part of our Community unit, I asked the students
to – in pairs – draw a map of their “ideal community”; if they were to create a
community, what would it look like, what would be included?
The entire
project, from lesson to independent work, was recorded. Upon project
completion, I asked the children to think about why they chose to include the people and places that they did. Is
it important to have this place or that person in the community? When they were
ready, they came to me to present their finished work.
I have
edited all the clips and can be found here:
Having this
link is the only way to access these videos. They are unlisted and cannot be
seen by others without a link! Your privacy (and that the students) is
incredibly important.
Currently,
I am working with the students on the 5 senses (taste, smell, hearing, sight
and touch). From there, I will be moving on to Report (non-fiction) Writing.
I look
forward to continuing my work with your children and hope to meet some of you
in the coming months!
